On International Education's Day, January 26. I had the opportunity to be featured on Global News Calgary.
On that day, I shared more than information. I shared a fragment of my story and my childhood that has taken away from me at the age of 12.
I spoke about the day Taliban took power in Afghanistan in 2021. It was the day my education, something I loved deeply, Something I believed would shape my future-was Suddenly taken away from me.
During the interview, I also spoke about Plan International Canada’s Refugee Education and Development project, which operates in West Africa and provides education for more than 40,000 displaced children living through crises such as conflict, climate change, and poverty.
I am deeply grateful to Plan Canada and the Girls Belong Here program for giving me the opportunity to share my experience on Global News Calgary and raise my voice for girls whose right to education has been taken away. It was an honor to speak not only on behalf of millions of Afghan girls, but also for girls around the world whose education, freedom, and future continue to be denied.
Through this experience, I hope to continue raising awareness and advocating for equal opportunities and education for every girl.
